From some friends: We just had a young friend, an E-3 stationed at Ft. Campbell, drop by the house. He stated that in a couple of weeks he is deploying to Liberia for a 6-12 month humanitarian mission. He is fearful, but confident. He said they have been receiving haz-mat training and will deploy with five complete haz-mat suits. He also stated that the married servicemen are upset, as they are actually going to be losing pay, with this being considered a TDY assignment. There are many trying to get out of deployment. As a health care provider (retired), I must say that I too am concerned. When there is an obvious breakdown in precautions and their implementation between the CDC and hospitals, how can we expect young soldiers to not be affected? I have always considered that one sign of a wisdom was the ability to listen to those you trust, followed by prayer. My confidence that wisdom has been sought, in this effort to deploy American troops, simply does not exist. It is my fear that history will prove it to be a foolhearty application of American resources. Hopefully, I am wrong. Eddy, I am in complete agreement with you. This is not a military mission, are military was not been established to subdue diseases. I think it is great that the US will do great humanitarian things, but lets get the Chinese involved. How about the Russians, or better yet the Muslims( They work directly with the Deity). It is my fear that history will prove it to be a foolhearty application of American resources. Hopefully, I am wrong.
