From the Aussie Mags Archive: Viduka, Barton IN and Parker and Sibierski OUT 10th June 2007 Its been one of the busiest weeks of transfer activity, outside the final week of a transfer window, for many years. Two new arrivals and two departures, sees Sam Allardyce make his 1st steps in establishing his squad for the new season. Scott Parker has departed for West Ham for £7m, the relevant merits of the player can be debated but once he made it clear he wanted to head back down south his move was inevitable. The fact that weve made a profit on the 26 year old makes a rare change for us and with the news that Joey Barton has passed a medical on his £5.5m transfer (meaning hes all but signed) an instant replacement for Parker has been found. Joey Barton has had his well documented off field problems which cant be ignored or taken lightly but what also cant be denied is his ability to run a midfield with great attacking play and some much needed tough tackling. Antoine Sibierski has left on a free to Wigan, signing a two year contract. For all his surprising good work last season, its best all round that he has left, as he isnt of the required standard if the club is too move forward. He does however, leave with our all best wishes. The big news, especially for all of us living down under, is that Mark Viduka has become Sam Allardyces first signing, arriving from Middlesbrough on a free. The 31 year old Melbourne born striker has been seen as the man to give our striker force some much needed muscle. The prospect of a Viduka and Owen partnership is potentially very exciting and could rival the Shearer and Owen partnership had with England. The added bonus for us will obviously be the extra exposure Newcastle United will get in the Australian media, weve already seen Collingwood FC president Eddie McGuire talk about the Viduka transfer and the obvious links between the two famous black & white Magpie clubs. So after all that transfer activity Sam Allardyce has improved the squad and has made a £1.5m profit, which given the fact that we still need in a lot of new players, this could turn out to one of the most exciting summers for a long time.
