From the Autocrat of celtic bardic: Please forward to your local lists! Greetings Good Gentles of Blatha An Oir! We invite you to share your knowledge with others as instructors for this coming June 26-28 at Embers & Ambrosia/Celtic Bardic, which will be held in Orting at the Sumner Sportsmens Association site! As the barony’s main learning event of the year we want to encourage everyone to attend this three-day camping/learning experience, be they beginner or master craftsman. We have already had some volunteers offer to teach classes such as dancing and lampworking, and an event stewarding class. Some ideas for other classes we would like to have (whether to actually create items or have discussion driven classes only) include: -SCA history -Period camping (tent styles, period kitchens, etc.) -Persona development of various cultures and time periods -Classes on roles in the SCA and what they mean, such as becoming a peer, a sergeant, or an officer -Sergeantry classes for those who have declared intent -heraldry basics: in court, roving, and researching names/devices -casting -basic archery theory, history, and the cultures that had it -basic to experienced armor-making skills -shield/weapon building -Pell-making -Marshalling -Fighting techniques -woodworking -stone carving -leather working/tooling -shoe making -jewelry -medieval painting/sculpting -silk banner painting -dying -fiber crafts, such as spinning, naalbinding, weaving, knitting, lace-work, and felting/fulling in all their various forms -Sewing techniques, from beginning work to finishing. -Period clothing, from underwear to heavy coats and headgear -Embroidery (or other forms of embellishment) -Hair dressing, hair styles, men’s as well as women’s and children’s. (Period shaving would be wonderful too!) -Scribal such as illumination techniques and calligraphy -Period cooking and food prep, such as making butter, bread, etc. -Brewing -Poisons -medieval music, from singing to various instruments -games -Courtesy and recognition classes, how to identify members of rank, etc. -Flirting, medieval love -Tween/Teenage-appropriate classes, such as fire building/safety, knife safety, fighting techniques etc. for 12-17 -Child-oriented classes for those 11 and younger Our main goal for this event is to encourage as many of our SCA family to attend as possible. Along with having a lower day-tripping fee vs. a weekend-long fee difference, the event team has decided that all youths, aged 17 and younger, will enter for free with their approving/legal guardians. We do this in the hopes that families who normally can’t/don’t attend SCA classes will come learn with us, and we want to provide entertainment and classes for them too. Instructors will also have a reduced fee. If your class needs materials or special preparation/tools, please make a list of costs so that when we make up the schedule, these details can be included. Classes need not focus on only one historical group. We would like to see classes from a range of time periods and cultures within the medieval period (From late Roman to Elizabethan, they are all welcome!) If you can share your passion about any of these activities or perhaps another that we haven’t thought about please email Fru Audny Refsdottir (Erin Esther Severe) at erin_dolphin@hotmail. You can also send her a message on Facebook if that is easier. We really hope we can put together a great learning weekend for all but we can only do this with your help! Since this event is also going to have our annual bardic championship competition, we hope to encourage the arts in the form of the performing arts as well. If you are interested in putting on a period skit, telling a story, or performing a musical number, please don’t hesitate to tell us! The competition for champion will be held Saturday in the evening, and court will be held afterwards. We look forward to hearing from you! Gratefully Yours, Fru Audny Refsdottir and the event team for Embers and Ambrosia/Celtic Bardic
