From the C.D ~ Asrogasm From The Inner Space. I bought this C.D a few days ago, and on the very first listening I knew this was a truly astonishing album that will become one of my all time favourite psychedelic albums. Like much of AMTs music, it takes a little getting used to. The extreme repetition, the layer of noisy electric lead guitar (which on first listening didnt seem to make much rhythmic sense) & the long length of tracks can make it a bit difficult on first listening. Despite all that, I still sensed this was a unique & wondrous album, and after a few more listens it no longer seemed difficult & everything in the music made sense. This C.D is very different from a lot of other AMT releases - a lot less noisy rock freakouts and a lot more acoustic ethnic instruments (harmonium, bouzouki, sarangi & yangqin - a chinese hammered dulcimer) combined with some of their usual elements, such as spacey synth, Vocals are by Cotton Casino, and whilst her vocal style may not be everyones cup of tea, I just love it. Some people want to dismiss the band as being just like Hawkwind, and while certainly there is a lot of Hawkwind in their sound, there are a lot of other elements too. They may use riffs & textures that you find in Hawkwind, but structurally the tracks are very different. In that sense, I would compare it to what Beefheart does to The Blues ~ There are loads of sounds in Beefheart records that have COME from The Blues, but they have been deconstructed / reconstructed into a totally new form. The four tracks on this C.D are all very different from each other, and I would heartily recommend this album to anyone with adventurous ears, the only proviso being that you might need to give it a few plays till all its greatness shines through.
