From the Daily Telegraph.. This is the problem with the world.. Too many hippie left-wing people with the loudest voice.. Australian-born British political leader Natalie Bennett says public has right to sympathise with ISIS and said the public had a right to join or sympathise with a terrorist group like al-Qaeda or Islamic State and should not be punished for their beliefs, an Australian-born British political leader has declared. The leader of the UK Green Party Natalie Bennett took to the airwaves in Britain yesterday to push her party’s agenda ahead of federal elections in May. Speaking to BBC radio, the Sydney-born leader said under the Green Party, joining brutal terrorist groups like ISIS or al-Qaeda would not be illegal but committing acts of violence. The wording of the formal policy was: “it should not be a crime simply to belong to an organisation or have sympathy with its aims, though it should be a crime to aid and abet criminal acts or deliberately fund such acts”. “This is a part of our policy that I think dates back to the age of the ANC and apartheid South Africa,” she said. Pressed on whether that meant it would be allowed to be a member of groups like ISIS or al-Qaeda, the 48-year-old said: “Exactly. What we want to do is make sure we are not punishing people for what they think or what they believe. First Minister Nicola Sturgeon Meets With the Leaders Of Plaid Cymru And The Green Party Australian-born Natalie Bennett says people should not be punished for their beliefs. “Obviously actions of inciting violence, supporting violence, those are absolutely unacceptable, illegal and should be pursued to the full extent of the law.” She added: “What we are talking about is a principle that you shouldn’t be punished for what you think. And we need to balance, we do not protect freedom by destroying it.” She had earlier said Prime Minister David Cameron’s policy of stopping jihadist nationals from coming back to Britain from Syria or Iraq was wrong and most likely illegal. Ms Bennett, a former journalist from Tamworth’s Northern Daily Leader, grew up in Burwood in Sydney’s west before completing multiple degrees and a Masters from University of Sydney, University of New England and Leicester University in the UK. She moved to the UK in 1999 and took over the leadership of the Green in 2012. Originally published as ‘It is no crime to join ISIS’
