If you members of Christian education and church family would like to be a part of the program -please let me know soon 3/12/2014 When asked what he would like to see happen in his church young Antiano Stimpson responded cartoons and food. The Men and Boys Cartoon Breakfast (Just in time to uplift our President Barack Obamas My Brothers Keeper intensive.) The snow and black ice still on the ground a few committed soul ventured out to attend our scheduled event. Our host Antonio Stimpson age seven welcomed us with a hearty greeting and a smile. Although our speaker was unable to attend we made use of the time God gave us. The children opened us up in around of songs , Brother Berry Campbell read our scripture Proverb 22 :1-6 where we learned the value of a good name - humility and fear of the Lord and training up a child are all valuable things - after prayer/grace we enjoyed a fellowship breakfast. Our ice breaker question :Name 4 superheros with the word man in their name -that got some hands raised from the young to the mature. -We went around the room and introduced ourselves and told of an interest and then one thing that each person enjoyed during. Every one from the mentor/leader group had a genuine interest in helping young people achieve their goals. The young people had interest also when ask what they hope to become;there were aspiring football players, policemen ,teacher, and pediatrician to name a few. We had open discussion Brother John Wynn (preachers steward)talked about guns and peer pressure Brother M. Donahue(mentor in the community) talked about action, re action and consequences. Brother Willie Bolden (president of Mens Booster Club) talked about truth and losing a son. We talked about leadership and what makes a good leader. Some of the young people responded- Listening and following directions -positive attitude -showing respect -ability to delegate -be willing to show humility -Note: Superman Batman Aqua man Spider Man X-man Iron man all something in common - Brother Berry Campbell reminded us that all these characters have a weakness. But Jesus Christ our leader has no weakness. Brother Gaines share there are Bible heroes -animated heros who are based on true Bible stories good for teaching the truth. I would like to thank the St.Philip Mens Booster for supporting and sharing in this timely meeting. Theme to take away We are our Brothers keeper - we must train up -and do it NOW!
