From the Desk of Joint Commissioner of Police (Vivek Phansalkar) Joint Commissioner of Police, Traffic Dear Mumbaikars Thank you all mumbaikars for your gracious support and cooperation in the year 2012 and we look forward to the same in a glorious 2013 ahead! …Our efforts to curb drunk driving are ongoing and we appeal to all of you that enjoy life but not at the cost of your or anyone else’s life and safety! We are doing our best possible to create awareness of road safety on all issues of traffic be it pedestrian crossings, road conditions, overspeeding or wayward parking..to quote only a few and the State as well as our department will be launching a fortnight of campaign on road safety starting January 1st 2013. We solicit support of all mumbaikars-pedestrians ,motorists, employees working in various organizations, banks, companies, railways. Lets all join our hands together to obey traffic rules and make our city roads a better n safer place! The website of Mumbai Traffic Police aims to build a bond between the Traffic Police and citizens of Mumbai. It is an attempt to inform all initiatives of Mumbai Traffic Police connected with regulation of traffic and issues related with educating and disciplining road-users on various aspects of travel and safety. The Hon’ble High Court has appointed a High Power Committee under the Additional Chief Secretary (Home), Government of Mahrashtra with the Transport Commissioner, Principal Secretary (Transport), General Manager (BEST), Additional Municipal Commissioner (MCGM), Additional Metropolitan Commissioner (MMRDA) & Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) amongst its members. The Committee is seized of the monumental problem of improving Mumbai City’s traffic and related issues of infrastructure/public transport. The Committee has already had a series of meetings and we would be happy to receive suggestions – both minor and major from all Mumbaikars on all aspects of Mumbai transport and traffic management. Suggestions can come to us through emails or simple letters and we promise to look into them and work upon them. The Mumbai Traffic Police constantly strives to sort out various issues pertaining to parking, traffic jams, thoroughfare etc raised by people so as to improve the traffic situation in Mumbai. We have also asked our Police Inspectors of Traffic divisions, Asstt. Commissioners of Police & Dy. Commissioners of Police to hold interactional meetings with ALMs/groups of people who want to be actively involved in the improvement of traffic/pedestrian movement in their respective area. We aim to involve people in our decision making in a constructive manner, and promise to serve you better. Your feedback and suggestions are important to us.
