From the Garrett, McAuley Report… Weighing in on Israel: The Palestinians launch a thousand missiles into Israel because they want their own country, but theres a fundamental problem here. There are no Palestinians. Israel was called Palestine for two thousand years, but even though Palestinian sounds Biblical, its really a modern invention. Before the Israelis won the land in the 1967 war, Gaza was part of Egypt, the West Bank was part of Jordan, and there simply were no Palestinians. Actually, there is no such a thing as a Palestinian people, a Palestinian culture, a Palestinian language, or a Palestinian history. There has never been a Palestinian state. A coalition of nine Arab states attacked Israel in 1967, and when the Arabs lost and Israel won, the Arabs in the West Bank and Gaza underwent a sort of anthropological miracle, and out of the humiliation of defeat, discovered that they were Palestinians. The so-called Palestinians are an Arab people, with Arab culture, Arabic language and Arab history. They were and are simply Arabs living in Jordan and Gaza. So next time you read about world opinion calling on Israel to show restraint, next time someone mentions the thousands of missiles launched at Israel from Gaza, the next time you read anything about the Palestinians as innocent victims, lets at least have the intellectual honesty to stop thinking of them as Palestinians.
