From the HW&S Committee: Cooking Together, Cooking Forever is back this year with some exciting new enhancements, including a newsletter for each instructional video. This program can be used in several different ways, but first and foremost it is great for moms and dads to use with their children as a family activity. Additionally, your school can use it to complement their current curriculums for Health, FCS, and Family Living classes- feel free to pass it on to your schools administrative staffs. Also, student organizations can use it as a service learning project to deliver cooking and nutrition education to elementary classes or other community groups. But for PTA, it makes for a great school-wide parent involvement program. For example, you could hold monthly cooking and nutrition classes at the school to reinforce and extend the lessons taught in Cooking Together, Cooking Forever. Similarly, you could do cooking contests at the school, also based on the CTCF content; or, hold a school-wide potluck dinner where kids bring dishes from home that they’ve prepared after viewing the program. And here’s an interesting thought- you might be able to work with your school administration to use a little Title 1 money from the parent involvement set aside to help fund some of these live events. Since CTCF is a free program, this is an excellent way to really stretch your Title 1 dollars!
