From the Inbox: ~Bailey So kind of a vent. Sorry if its long. Here goes. I have been with my SO for almost 2 years. We are going to get married eventually, but because he commissioned in May and doesnt have a training date until Jan, we decided that we dont want to get married or engaged until after the military life begins. We have been talking a lot about when we finally move to his first duty station. Well this whole time I thought that since wed be living together and the military would start giving him BAH that I would no longer have to pay half rent that BAH would cover it. I was planning on still helping with utilities and food. I figured my half for rent would be keeping the house clean, laundry, cooking, etc. Well today we were looking at ideas for places wed like to live and he told me he still expects me to pay half of everything including rent. Idk why, but it took me by surprise. I am young, and money is tight. I dont even have a car, I walk or take the bus to work. I have student loans, credit card bill, and medical bills to pay. Now right now, it is completely reasonable for me to pay half everything since the military isnt paying for anything until he leaves for training. But is it wrong for me to think the military would pay for our new places rent? I was hoping I could start saving up for a car and pay off debt a lot quicker, but it doesnt look like its going to happen. Its just frustrating because he knows how stressed I am about my debt. And he is by no means in any debt( ROTC full ride scholarship, and over $15,000 his parents gave him for graduation). I dont ask him to help me pay for anything. But I figured since were starting a life together and he would have the means and resources he could take that one less payment off my hands and give me room to start saving. Any advice? Thanks in advance ladies!
