From the KY State Nature Preserves Commission report: KY fish fauna contains nearly 250 native species, including nine species that occur nowhere else in the world! Unfortunately, poor land use practices and pollution over the past 200 years has contributing to the loss of nine species. Of Kentucky’s remaining fishes, about 25 percent are now considered imperiled, and six are so jeopardized that they have been added to the Federal List of Threatened and Endangered Wildlife.
