From the Maine Historical Society e-Connection... keep up the good work Cindy! +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ SPOTLIGHT: Celebrating 35 years MHS is pleased to celebrate a beloved staff members 35th anniversary. Cindy Murphy, our Finance and HR Assistant, grew up in South Portland, worked at the South Portland Library, and joined the ranks here in 1979. There are few jobs Cindy hasnt covered, and each with grace, patience, and an unyielding willingness to serve MHS and its patrons. Her co-workers will tell you that Cindy is the heart of our office, a loyal friend, and has incredible institutional memory! Cindy recalls, When I first started here I was in the library basement, typing catalog cards for a back-log of books and would help cover the library desk as needed. When we computerized, I moved to working by the front door as the receptionist and oversaw the small gift shop area. Later, I moved up to the second floor of the Library and worked as the Membership and Development Secretary, and from there transitioned into the Finance and Human Resources office, where Ive been now for a number of years. In the time Ive been here there have been so many changes (digitization, for example), so its exciting to think of all the ways weve connected people with their ties to Maine. Cindy says she loves working at MHS and that theres always something new to learn about Maines history. She has worked on several transcribing projects, including transcribing a microfilm of Portland naturalization petitions from 1912-1929, of which she hopes will help genealogists, and makes more of MHSs resources accessible to members from away. Thanks, Cindy, for 35 amazing years (although were not sure the math adds up since youre only 29)!
