From the NY Times today: Now that the Confederacy has been defeated (again), it should be readily acknowledged that the Republican pledge to drown the government in a bathtub is neither a creepy cliche nor a misguided metaphor, but rather is the true intention of the Grand Old Piracy. If the GOP was serious about balancing the budget, they would cut corporate and 1% welfare and honestly work to tackle rising healthcare costs, something that Obamacare actually does and the GOP fights tooth and nail. The GOP blew up our national treasury will low tax income rates for three-plus decades, trillions spent on Iraq and Afghanistan and an unfunded, no-bid Medicare part D giveaway to the pharmaceutical industry and capped off their voodoo economics by failing to support even modest regulation of Wall. St. vulture capitalism, thereby aiding and abetting the global economic meltdown and depressed government revenues that we still suffer from five years later. The GOP is not serious about revenues, expenses, mathematics, economics, facts or governance. They are only serious about making a one-term President out of a two-term President who is guilty of the of the high crime and misdemeanor of presiding while black. The Republican Party is stuck in Dixie.
