From the Nationalist: Holders Ballybacon-Grange advanced to the semi-finals of the South Intermediate hurling championship with this hard fought six points win over Moyle Rovers in this first round played on Sunday last in Cahir. The decisive score of the game arrived in the 28th minute of the second half when substitute Philip Murphy finished Danny Regan’s centre to the Moyle Rovers’ net to open a five point gap. Overall this was a game that never reached any great heights with the second half in particular being of a stop start nature. Ballybacon opened the scoring with an Eoin Walsh free which was quickly cancelled by a fine Ross Mulcahy effort. This was the pattern for the first quarter with Ciaran Lorrigan 2f Brian Gleeson and Sean Keating Moyle Rovers and Danny Regan and Billy Hewitt for Ballybacon to leave the losers 5-3 ahead. An Eoin Walsh free left the minimum between the sides. Two points from Thomas Hill and Martin Dunne pushed the margin out to three. After an exchange of frees between Eoin Walsh and Ciaran Lorrigan, the winners hit five points in a row Eoin Walsh 2 1F, Peter Hally, Thomas Maher and Brian Dillon to leave the half-time score Ballybacon-Grange 0-10 Moyle Rovers 0-8 The second half had a dramatic start when inside the first minute Ballybacon’s Joey Phelan was fouled in the square, but Brendan Cummin,s penalty was saved by Ian Browne. The winners missed a numbers of chances before Moyle Rovers tied the game 10 all with points from Ciaran Lorrigan and Thomas Hill. But the winners then hit the next three scores from Danny O Regan 2 and an Eoin Walsh free. Dennis McGrath with a free again reduced the margin to two before Philip Murphy’s goal . Danny Regan then pointed to finish the scoring.
