From the Pastors Heart: Greater love has no one than this, - TopicsExpress

From the Pastors Heart: Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends. (John 15:13) For most, Memorial Day is the unofficial start of summer. Its a chance to get a free day off work and school, and a convenient excuse to escape to the shore for the first time of the year. But for veterans and their families, Memorial Day is solemn, its reflective, and its a time for them to remember fallen brothers and sisters. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery stands atop a hill overlooking Washington, D.C. On March 4, 1921, Congress approved the burial of an unidentified American soldier from World War I in the plaza of the new Memorial Amphitheater. Inscribed on the back of the Tomb are the words: Here rests in honored glory An American soldier known but to God. As we remember those countless members of the armed forces who paid the ultimate price of giving their lives for our freedom, let us not forget those who by the oath they took were willing to do the same if called upon. With that in mind, we may not be asked to lay down our lives, but can we lay down our will? Can we sacrifice our desires? Can we esteem others more highly than selves? Can we love as Jesus loves, in a self-sacrificing way? Can we say, not my will but thine will be done? Receive the Blessing of God.
