From the Rev. Deacon Larry Barnhill Reflection for 14 June - TopicsExpress

From the Rev. Deacon Larry Barnhill Reflection for 14 June 2013 Where do you keep your goats? (taken from Psalm 64) I want to give a shout out for this to my brother in Christ, Chris Speers, who provided the impetus for this devotion. In Psalm 64, David is talking about those who lurk in the darkness and plot, gossip, and lay plans and traps to bring others down. Part of that is also reacting with anger as we encounter those snares they have laid out. Are we falling victim to these slings and arrows or are we turning to God and resting in His strength and are we using Him as our safe refuge? Many of us know the saying ‘they got my goat’, but how many of us seek to keep our goat in the barn? As my good friend stated, when we come across problems and those that would seek to come against us and the Christ in us, do we keep our goat secure in our barn, or do we let him come out and let them get him and bring us down to their level and away from walking the straight and narrow path that is the Christian walk? It is easy to give in and retaliate, but Christ tells us to turn the other cheek and to pray for those that come against us. How many of us actually do that? When we keep the goat in the barn, we can stay secure in God, but if we let the goat out into the yard, the prowling lion which is satan, is quick to come in and seek to devour it. When we give up our goat, we become overcome by sin and we become that which we seek to overcome. So as you spend time in reflection today, seek to see where you are truly placing your goat, and I pray that you keep him in the barn and that you can follow the narrow path and find strength and security in God.
