From the Rev. Deacon Larry Barnhill, Reflection for 29 June 2013 Today’s Thought ~ Where do you put your fear? Fear can be both an agent of good and an agent of the enemy. When we deal with healings, whether spiritual, physical, or mental, fear often becomes a large block that works to separate us from the blessings of God, and in doing so works to become a major block and weight that drags us down and works to separate from God. It is this type of fear that I wish to address today. When we let fear into our lives, we begin to give it control over us. Fear affects not only our relationship with Christ but also our perceptions. For many of us perception is reality, or at least our perception is our reality. Our perception is the ground of our decisions. We evaluate what we perceive to be true, and we make our decisions on the perceptions we have, and of past perceptions. That is true for both the sinner and the saint. When fear enters our lives, we no longer have our perceptions rooted in the love and knowledge of Christ. Instead our perceptions become rooted in the flesh and the enemy will use that to attempt to drive you further away from Christ. When we go through problems, trials, addictions, or illness, we often inadvertently invite fear into our lives. This allows a crack in our spiritual armor through which we are susceptible to attacks. If we don’t take the time and effort to fix this crack in our armor, we allow unclean spirits to join the fear in our bodies, minds, and or souls. We have all seen this in our lives without really knowing or recognizing it. How often have we seen people say, “oh they are just going through the grieving process” when something tragic happens? This grieving process is often seen in stages such as denial, blame, anger, pride, resentment, unforgiveness, envy, and sorrow. When we allow fear to enter into our lives and begin to have control over us we fall victim to what Jesus warned us about. Many times we don’t see that we have a problem and only take of the surface issue. As a result that allows the fear to return with his buddies making our situation worse. Often one of the greatest tools used against us when it comes to healing is our own ego. True healing can only come from God. When we let our ego’s take over we become separated from God and the ability to receive his blessings. I like to look at one acronym of the word Ego that sums this all up. EGO is EASING GOD OUT. It is the effort of we humans trying to make the ultimate decisions, and usurping the throne of God. It is the human effort to become God in some small measure and to be able to have control over those circumstances that affect our lives. When we let fear into our lives we often begin to work against the wishes and plans of God, and we tell ourselves that we are working for God. As we continue on this path we block out the peace and comfort that comes before the healing, This then leads to blocks and barriers being put up that keeps out God from healing and being with us during any attempts to be healed by human means. We often see this with cancer patients who have put up barriers and have only healed the surface issue. Yes they may be in remission, but the underlying issue is still there. As such the post healing peace, comfort, and wellness are not able to flow in from God and in many cases that unaddressed issue comes back harder and stronger. So in short fear plays a major role in any healing that is to be done. The choice we have to make is whether that fear is the fear and love of God, or a fear that wishes to enter us and separate us from the love of God. If our fear is in the Lord our God, then we are working with God. When we are working with God and not for God, we have no fear of how things are going to turn out. As such we can fearlessly face the problem and make the attempt to do so knowing that God is with us and guiding us. Jesus has told us that he will be with us till the end of the age. If our fear is based in the love of Christ then we have his power and love with us and in us. Remember this as you face the challenges that will come at you in your daily lives. With God all things are possible and you and Jesus are an overwhelming majority. So put your fear in the Lord and not in the issues of the flesh and the true healing we seek will begin to occur. Amen
