From the Rev. Deacon Larry Barnhill, Reflection for 3 July 2013 Today’s Thought ~ Misplaced Passions The following is a poem that I wrote a few years back. It is an allegorical look at the life that we misguidedly lead when we pursue things other that Jesus while thinking we are serving Him. Without repenting and following His lead, we follow down a false trail thinking we are pursuing evil to only find out that what we are seeking to capture and defeat is nothing but what we have become. As you read this may you take the time to truly repent, have your eyes opened, and step out into the light that is Jesus. THE HUNT Upon a darkened trail Daylight quickly passing Walks a man not yet frail. He searches for a scent Forwards, backwards, side to side His energy long since spent. He hopes his hunt is not in vain Searching eternity for an unseen foe Hoping to slay the source of his pain. A small pond he does find Drinking slowly to sate his thirst Cool cleansing waters to recharge his mind. Quickly his hands go numb A dire image upon the waters For but the prey has he become. A life consumed by its own greed With misplaced passions and desires Turns the mind inside out Hunter becomes prey, and prey the hunter.
