From the Secret Files of Williston: It was Easter 1913 and the Odd Fellows of Williston were organizing the children’s Easter egg hunt. Millicour J. Metzger, who was in charge of hiding the eggs came up with the idea of hiding them in trees and letting the kids climb for them. Well needless to say this was a bad idea, a very bad idea. The result of the hunt was three broken arms and two broken legs, and a large crowd of very angry parents. Metzger went on the lamb and hid out at Fort Kelly along the Little Muddy until he was able to make his way to Minot and catch a freight train to the east coast and was never heard of again. In Monday’s Extra Special Easter Edition of the Williston Herald and sold on the corner of Main and Broadway, little Ward Kosser standing on his tin bucket hawked the issues with one arm in a sling. In the aftermath the local Elks Club was named to official Easter Egg Hunt marshals with the provision that all egg’s must be placed on the ground.
