From the Southern Poverty Law Center Twenty-six-year-old - TopicsExpress

From the Southern Poverty Law Center Twenty-six-year-old Episcopal seminary student Jonathan Daniels traveled from Boston to Alabama to join the voting rights movement. On Aug. 20, 1965, he went to buy a soda with Rev. Richard Morrisroe, a Catholic priest, & two teenagers. When they got to the door, a white man aimed his shotgun at 17-year-old Ruby Sales. As he fired, Daniels shielded Sales from the bullet and was killed instantly. An all-white jury acquitted the killer and shook his hand as they filed out of the courtroom. We honor Daniels & other civil rights martyrs as we approach the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington. Learn more about Jonathan Daniels: splcenter.org/martyrs-remembered
