From the U.S. Department of Education: The public comment period on the Presidents proposal to expand the Pay as You Earn student loan repayment program is open until November 4th! Instructions for sharing your views are listed below. INFO ON THE PRESIDENTS PAY AS YOU EARN PROPOSAL: President Obama published a memorandum about his Pay As You Earn proposal that would allow even more students who have borrowed Federal Direct Loans the ability to cap their Federal student loan payments at 10 percent of their income. HOW TO SHARE YOUR VIEWS ON THE PROPOSAL: In response to the President’s memorandum, the Department of Education (ED) invites the public to share thoughts and/or offer comments on the President’s proposal to expand the “Pay As You Earn” repayment program and to target this option to those borrowers who would otherwise struggle to repay their loans. You may do so in three ways: (1) Speak at one of two of our Public Hearing sessions: * October 23rd, 2014, from 9:00am to 4:00pm local time at the U.S. Department of Education,1990 K St NW, 8th Floor conference center, Washington DC 20006 * November 4th, 2014 from 1:00pm-4:00pm local time at the Marriot Anaheim, 700 West Convention Way, Grand Ballroom E, Anaheim, CA 92802. Interested parties can register by sending an email to [email protected] and include: (a) which hearing will be attended; (b) the name of the presenter; (c) the general timeframe in which the individual would like to speak, i.e. morning, afternoon, etc. We will do our best to accommodate all those who wish to provide comments. Walk-ins will be taken on a first-come first-served basis. Registration is not required to observe public hearings. (2) If you are unable to attend a public hearing, comments about these proposed regulations can be submitted electronically by clicking on the blue, “Comment Now” box in the upper right hand corner of this webpage: regulations.gov/#!documentDetail;D=ED-2014-OPE-0124-0001. (3) Comments about these proposed regulations can also be mailed to Wendy Macias at the U.S. Department of Education, 1990 K St NW, Room 8017, Washington D.C. 20006. DEADLINE FOR PUBLIC RESPONSE: November 4, 2014 **Privacy Note** The Departments policy is to make all comments received from members of the public (including those comments submitted by mail, commercial delivery, or hand delivery) available for public viewing in their entirety on the Federal eRulemaking Portal at regulations.gov. Therefore, commenters should be careful to include in their comments only information that they wish to make publicly available.
