From the U.S. Department of States January 26 daily press briefing: The United States Government continues to urge all parties, including former General National Congress members to participate in the discussions that are underway in Geneva, convened by Bernardino Leon, the special representative of the UN Secretary General, to form a national unity government. Those who choose not to participate are excluding themselves from discussions which are critical to the peace, stability, and security of Libya. The United States Government does not recognize the Government of National Salvation, GNS, in Libya, and is not engaged with any person purporting to act on behalf of Omar al-Hassi or the GNS, contrary to some reports.
