From the WHNT Channel 19 Weather Blog: Monday Morning, August 4, 2014 Meteorologist Jake Reed Heat Builds this Week with a Low Rain Chance Typical heat levels for early August continue today with a very small chance for a shower or storm during the heat of the afternoon. Rain will be very hard to find on radar until we head toward the end of the week as a frontal boundary slides in. For now the best coverage of rain looks to be Friday and Saturday. Highs today will easily reach the upper 80s and lower 90s across the area, but the humidity shouldn’t be too unbearable. As an upper-level ridge pulses overhead midweek, temperatures will climb just a few degrees– in to the mid 90s, but that will only last for a day or two. Highs drop back into the upper 80s late this week due to increased clouds and rain. Late-week Rain: Our next best chance for rain will arrive in the Tennessee Valley late this week, especially by Friday and Saturday and could last into Sunday. It doesn’t look like an all-day washout, but rather waves of rain and storms over that time period. Hopefully this will materialize as more of a “hit” and less of a “miss” because many of us are still in need of a good soaking rain. Tropical Storm Bertha: The second named storm of the 2014 season is swirling into the Caribbean and will impact Puerto Rico with gusty winds and heavy rain on Sunday. This will not be a Gulf of Mexico storm, and it will have very little chance of having a direct impact at any point on the United States’ coastline: BERTHA from NHC.
