From the archives of Thats the Word heard weekdays on radio stations, WMFC and WPPG. Original air date: 01/28/08 The Old Guitar Y’all Listen Up! Walking through the rows of discarded things in a second hand store something caught my attention. It was an old guitar. I picked it up; the frets were worn from hours of use. I could only surmise that its owner must have died. There could be no other explanation for such a jewel to be abandoned by its owner. I ran my fingers across the rusty strings; the sound was chaotic. So I sat down and tuned it right there between the rows. I couldn’t stand for such a fine instrument to sound so bad. The music came to life. I played a few notes and suddenly people were watching taking notice. Out of tune the guitar was worthless, but in tune the shelf value soared. My life was like that, out of tune and worthless, until God saw me standing among the rows of discarded things and tuned me up. That’s the Word. Im Wayne McMillian, pastor of Mexia Baptist Church.
