From the article: Devoted music lovers trying to save Melbournes Palace Theatre from the wrecking ball are trying to figure out why they were targeted in a heated confrontation that quickly became physical, spilling out into the street. About a dozen protesters had gathered in front of the theatre on Thursday night after learning that workers had stripped out century-old interiors from the building at the same time protection for the former music venue was being investigated. But police had to be called to the protest after several men showed up and started verbally abusing and harassing the group. On Friday afternoon police confirmed they had made an arrest after responding to reports of a brawl at 6.34pm on Thursday. A Maddingley man, 28, was later arrested at about 7.30pm for criminal damage. He was interviewed by police and was released pending further investigation, a police spokesperson said. Tristan Davies, from the Melbourne Heritage Action group, said everyone wanted to know who the men were – and why they kept pestering the group until the confrontation escalated into such an ugly scene.
