From the diaries of Grandma Wilkins – March 20 1963 – (Wed) Cold. Snowed some. Bernice, Thelma & I went to Columbus to get material for church. 30 yds @.88, 5% - $25+. Sue gave Joyce a permanent. 1964 – (Fri) Cleaned up house & washed the paper in our bedroom. Kept Kim & Eric all day. Richard’s here for supper. Sue & Paul went to A. Godfrey horse show at Cols. 1965 – (Sat) Cold & snow on ground. Dot came home. Dad not working. He & Herb got coal. Dad & I kept Lori while Sue & Paul went to minstrel. 1966 – (Sun) Pearl Mack’s BD, 57 yrs. Went to church, up to Sue’s in PM. Water heater bad. Harold’s & Mom & Edgar here for supper. Windy. 1967 – (Mon) 32° more snow. I washed. Sue washed. Got 30 gal milk at Bob W. Turned to rain in PM. Aunt Lillie out of hospital. 1968 – (Wed) 50° & raining. Went to Hopewell to Aid meeting. Mary Souders (Ada Wilkins sister) died. Tommy Smith’s 3rd boy. 1969 – (Thu) Nice day, rained a little. Took Jerry to New Lex at 6:15 to go to service. Paid insurance. Penny & I walked up to see Gingerich baby & on over to the plant & rode home with Dad. 1970 – (Fri) Rained a little. Cleaned bathroom & most of our bedroom. Washed curtains & some things. I got 5 cards. We went to fish fry at Thornville & on to Southgate. Got several things to take to Texas. 1971 – (Sat) Snowing 30°. I ironed. Jerry up to Jim S in eve. Dad got me a new watch for my BD. 1972 – (Mon) Beautiful day. I washed & hung them out. I went to Somerset. Men started on our insulating job. Chas. G. worse. Sue gave me a permanent in eve. I got 4 cards for BD. 1973 – (Tue) Little warmer. We quilted at Thelma’s. I took Dad’s supper up. I made pies in eve. 1974 – (Wed) Nice. Edgar’s & I to New Lex. Paid taxes, title transferred & new license tags for car. Jerry’s here for supper. We over to Roger’s in eve. Pearl Mack’s BD, 65 yrs. Edgars & I to Aunt Mabel’s. 1975 – (Thu) Washed & hung them out. Up to Sue’s in PM. She gave me a permanent. Over to Edgar’s in eve. 1976 – (Sat) Warm, windy, rained, T & L in eve. Jim Geaslens, Gall’s & Jerry’s here for supper. Sue came later & brought a BD cake. Penny gave me a new tablecloth & Thelma a doz eggs. 1977 – (Sun) Cold. Went to church & to Joyce’s for BD dinner. Ed, John & Jerry D. BD, all of Roger’s family there. Gus here in eve. Joyce gave me a pen & holder for my BD. 1978 – (Mon) Nice, sunny. Put Estella Lang’s quilt in. In eve all the kids here & brought ice cream & BD cake. Jerry’s got me a new dress, Sue $5, Richard’s subscription to TV Guide, Ruth $2. 1979 – (Tue) Nice & warm. Up to Sue’s for supper. She gave me a pin. Jerry’s also there. They gave me a scarf. Got 6 cards. 1980 – (Thu) Warm. Roger W. here a while. I went to Lenten service in eve. 1981 – (Fri) Cold & sunny. Got a BD card from Auntie. 1982 – (Sat) Gloomy. I got 16 BD cards. I just messed around. Wayne’s & Jim Heaton’s here in PM. Vernon Ridenour died. 1983 – (Sun) Cool, gloomy & rainy. I went to church. We, Harold’s & Such’s to Duff’s for my BD. We visited at Harold’s & Steve’s. Mary’s sister showed slides. Martha &Mildred gave me a macramé hanger & flower pot. Estella Lang died, 78 yrs. 1984 – (Tue) I quilted. Rained. Sue & kids here in eve. Brought a cake. I got 5 cards. 1985 – (Wed) Nice & windy. Carl hauled manure. I got 4 BD cards. 1986 – (Thu) Little snow & colder. I washed & dusted. 1987 – (Fri) Nice. I dusted up the house. Chas. Johnson’s here in PM. Sue gave me a perm for my BD. Stopped at Ruth’s, we played dominoes. I beat her 3 – 2. 1988 – (Sun) Snowed a little, 30°. I went to church with Donald’s. Then Ruth, Doris & I went with them to Plymouth Church for dinner. Rev. Boles 30th yr. ministry. Tussing’s stopped in. Sue’s, Roger’s, Richard & Penny & Keri & Dave’s here for my BD. Sue $10, Penny a new dress. 1989 – (Mon) Snowing then rained. No Sr. Citizens. Harry Chilcote found dead in Jonathon Creek. Up to Tussing’s for supper. Cliff D. operated on. 1990 – (Tue) Cold, snow flurries. I got 4 BD cards. Richard’s & I up to Riverside hospital to see Maurice. 1991 – (Wed) Nice. I cleaned up rest of house. Quilted. Keri here after school. 1992 – (Fri) Cold. I went to Zanesville with Carl. We ate at Captain D’s. He to Dr. Body about his knee. To Marvin Love to look at machinery. To Steve M. In eve to Kirkersville to see Geo. Myers at F.H. It rained & snowed. 1993 – (Sat) Up to 40°. Jerry’s took me to Plain City for dinner for my BD. Got 5 cards. In eve went to Frisch’s & ate and listened to gospel music. 1994 – (Sun) Nice. I went to church. In eve to Lenten service at St. Paul Lutheran. 1995 – (Mon) 50° I made a casserole for Sr. Citizens. I went to Sr. Citizens. 14 present. In PM over to Carl’s. Frances Cooperrider, 72. Alice (Helser) Smith, 70. 1996 – (Wed) Snowed. I made noodles for Sherry. 1997 – (Thu) Nicer. I quilted. I have something wrong with my toe. Had to go to doctor.
