From the email: Hello liberals, First off, thanks to our guest speakers Joan OBrien and Patty Henetz of the Utah Newspaper Project who came out to talk to us about the SL Tribune/Deseret News Joint Operating Agreement a couple weeks ago. And thanks to Paul Rolly for judging the limerick contest. There were some great, sometimes NSFW limericks! Pat Bagley has expressed an idea that I think is great. Some papers position themselves as the leading voice of a particular industry/subject of national interest. The Wall Street Journal is the financial paper. The Washington Post is the beltway politics paper. The New York Times has culture, and the Deseret News has the LDS faith. So how could The Salt Lake Tribune position itself? As the outdoor recreation and environmental paper. Not only would a focused effort in that direction lead to wider distribution, it would make it a more attractive asset for a potential buyer who cares about the fourth estate. So, have you signed the Save The Tribune petition yet? If everyone on our list signed the petition we could handily put it over the 15,000 signature mark. Okay, now that youve read through this fulmination, its probably time to go to Drinking Liberally and fulminate some more. Join us this Friday from 6:30 - 9:30 in the back room of the Piper Down. Hell, we can even talk about Governor Herbert. Jeremiah, Laura, Jason, Casey, Christian, Kelly Jo Drinking Liberally SLC meets from 6:30-9:30 every every Friday in the back room of the Piper Down (1492 S. State Street).
