From the inbox: CJS Tonight I had my second suicidal subject call. The first didnt bother me but for some reason this one did. The reporting party threatened to kill himself if I got off the phone with him what so ever even to transfer him to a safe line and I believed him. So I stayed on the phone with him for 46 minutes trying to distract him and keep him non-suicidal until we were able to pinpoint his location. Now I havent been informed of the department policy regarding suicidal subjects as this is a fairly new department for me. The call didnt end well and the last things he said to me before hanging up were this is your fault for calling the cops, you shouldnt have done that, my death is on you. This is your fault b****. My question is how would you handle a call like that. I know its not my fault, he needed help and I have to report suicidal subjects, but did how do you not feel guilty for that? What are your departments to policies? Thank you in advance.
