From the land of great thinkers and philosophers came Socrates, - TopicsExpress

From the land of great thinkers and philosophers came Socrates, Aristotle, Thoreau, and Confucius to name only a few. In music, we had Tchaikovsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, Bizet, and Brahms. By the pen and paper we knew Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, and even our own George R. R. Martin. Amidst the fields of battle and politics alike stood Karl Marx, Abraham Lincoln, and both generals Lee and Grant. And for the more illustrative among us lived da Vinci, Monet, and van Gogh. And what had all these great and noble men in common? Beards. All of them, from those who overturned nations and established new ones to those who captivated the peoples hearts with words and colors, so many had glorious beards, short and long, thin and thick, brown, red, black, and grey. Now, I mean not to imply that a beard makes a man great, but that many great men throughout history and today had/have beards. So whats all this talk of how it looks unclean and uncivilized and not business-friendly, hmm? I suppose that if you work with food it would be a nuisance, but thats why we have hairnets. A beard is a monument to a mans wisdom, experience, and history. Its a symbol not only of his manliness, but also of his pondering. A beard tells a story. So to hell with those who tell us to look clean-shaven, as if beards themselves are dirt upon our faces! Look at them, the Beardless: their faces are bare and blank, telling neither of trial nor triumph, neither thought nor memory, whereas ours are robust with the history of 1,000 ancestors! So grow your beards, men, and grow them strong. Let nothing stop you. We will have our beards and we will be proud of them!
