From the magazine Natural Products last autumn: Nobel Prize winning scientist backs homeopathy Dr Luc Montagnier, the French virologist who won the Nobel Prize in 2008 for discovering the AIDS virus, has surprised the scientific community with his fulsome support for homeopathic medicine. In an interview for Science magazine Montagnier strongly supported homeopathy and homeopathic doses, stating: I cant say that homeopathy is right in everything. What I can say now is that the high dilutions (used in homeopathy) are right. High dilutions of something are not nothing. They are water structures, which mimic the original molecules. In a study published in 2009, Montagnier demonstrated that some bacterial DNA sequences are able to induce electromagnetic waves, even at high aqueous dilutions up to 10 to the -18. The study was an important contribution to the growing evidence base in fundamental research with direct relevance to homeopathy. Cristal Sumner, chief executive of British Homeopathic Association commented: Despite a growing evidence base supporting the efficacy of homeopathy, many in the scientific and medical communities refuse to acknowledge it as an effective form of medicine. So to have such an eminent scientist as Nobel Laureate Montagnier making such an unequivocal statement endorsing homeopathy and the science of micro dilutions is most welcome. Although we acknowledge that research into micro dilutions is still in its infancy, the results from work already carried out by Professor Montagnier in this field clearly indicate more scientists should be investigating this phenomenon and in doing so discovering why homeopathy works.
