From the new Laski Files, I hate to beat a dead horse but a new Tribune poll suggests that 9 out of 10 Chicago voters think changes should be made to the citys red light camera program . Really! Ive been singing those blues for over 5 years. In fact 2out of 3 Chicago voters believe that the cameras are just a bad idea. Now with the recent spike in tickets over the past few months (city coffers must be low) Mayor Emmanuels administration said it would review 9,000 tickets issued during the spikes and than increased it to 16,000. That tells me that something is really screwed up! 100$ a ticket=900,000 to 1,600.000.00 in quick revenue during that short period. What do you think your chances are of getting a refund? Somewhere between winning the lottery and getting struck by lightning! Quite honestly I dont believe these cameras save lives but in fact increase the risks of accidents because of the sudden braking or speeding on the yellow.Someone in the Council needs the testicular fortitude to introduce an ordinance banning the cameras or put a temporary moratorium on them until studies are done to pick out the most dangerous intersections or at the minimum have a binding referendum on the ballot next year and let the voters decide!Someone needs to stand up, use some common sense and do the right thing. Call your alderman! If the city is going to review 16,000 tickets than all we have are traps and a revenue hustle for City Hall!!! Anyone want to call their alderman and see where they stand?
