From the start, I have always been unapologetic about my admiration for Taylor Swifts music. I think that because of/despite of her age, her music is relevant, resonates across generations, even intelligent (have you read her lyrics?). Her new album is undeniably pop, and I am happy for the growth. Musical preferences aside, her shift from country to pop was a smart move - and powerful, given time. Media-savvy people might remark that shes impeccably packaged, so much so that it would be hard to find the real Taylor beneath all the media training and pre-arranged and numerous awwww-inducing anecdotes of her exploding all over the internet (especially a few weeks before the release of the album). But Id rather have that than the trainwreck of celebrities splashed regularly across tabloids. Taylor Swifts sweet image maybe immaculately cultivated; I say good for her to have a competent support team. If it turns out that shes mean in real life, I say its still good that she presents an image that young people (not just girls) can adore. If shes a genuine sweetheart, then I say, good job, Mr. and Mrs. Swift. Youve raised a girl worthy of respect. She is a young woman that would not be put down - not by ex boyfriends, not by an egotistical rapper, and certainly not by the impossible situation of having millions at a very young age. Oh, and this video? OH. SO. UNBELIEVABLY. CUTE. Even with the limited set, production, and added pressure from a continuous shot, her performance, simply, exceeds expectations. Shes magic. youtu.be/YnR5KknFffU
