From the story: But the larger question is, in a sense, simpler: Why? Why did Michael Brown, an 18-year-old kid headed to college, refuse to move from the middle of the street to the sidewalk? The author asks those questions like it doesnt seem possible that Michael Brown would do such a thing, yet we know that Michael Brown had JUST FINISHED robbing a convenience store. That doesnt make any sense either. . . but, it does make a certain sort of sense that a guy who just robbed a store, would be exactly the same kind of guy that would get into a violent confrontation with a police officer for seemingly no reason at all. I dont find it so difficult to believe Wilsons version of events as the author of that story, yet I do think there are some other elements of the story that the article author rightly calls to question - like why there seems to be so little bruising on Wilsons face and neck if Brown was really giving him the beating he described. On the other hand, Im imagining trying to punch someone sitting inside a car, and I think that they geometry and physics of the situation would make it hard to actually get a good solid punch in - youd have to punch at a sort of awkward downward angle that might result in little force being applied to the target.
