From the time fluoridation was introduced in Grand Rapids (MI) in 1945, it was known by the fluoridators the it would cause dental fluorosis--discolored tooth enamel. Dental fluorosis is abnormal, disfiguring and permanent. It can only be covered up by expensive application of dental veneers. When was it ever acceptable for government to randomly inflict disfigurement on children? The time to stop fluoridation was before it was ever started. And dental fluorosis is not simply cosmetic as fluoridators maintain. Dental fluorosis is the result of poisoning of the enamel-building cells (ameloblasts) by fluoride in the bloodstream during the years of tooth formation. It is visible evidence of chronic fluoride poisoning. Fluoride in the blood is carried to all parts of the body, affecting the nervous system, the endocrine system, the skeletal system and DNA continuously for as long as a person consumes fluoridated water. Fluoride is an accumulative poison. In healthy persons roughly half of each dose becomes stored in the bones where it eventually causes brittleness and increased risk of fractures. Fluoridation is an aberration. It is and always has been a violation of medical ethics and human rights. There is no possibility of patient consent for treatment, no regulation of dose, no monitoring of or responsibility for the effects of treatment. The belief that fluoridation has reduced tooth decay is superstition. WHO statistics show that tooth decay has declined at the same rate over the last seven decades everywhere in the US and around the world, whether or not water was fluoridated. Not-fluoridated Kingston (NY) has had the same decline in tooth decay as comparison city Newburgh (NY) which has been fluoridated since 1950. None of Long Island (NY) is fluoridated and 80% of New Jersey is not fluoridated. Natick (MA) is not fluoridated. In 1997 the Town Council commissioned a thorough study of the question--pro and con-- and concluded that Natick should not fluoridate. fluoridation/natick.htm The latest statistics from the CDC show that over 40 percent of American youth now have dental fluorosis. It is way past time for fluoridation to be halted.
