From the very start of our country, when Americans have considered - TopicsExpress

From the very start of our country, when Americans have considered who our enemies are, we have thought of countries. This is with good reason, after all. With the exception of wars with native Americans, it is countries with whom we have fought. Even those wars could be thought of as wars with various nations of people. We cannot afford to think in this manner any more. When our barracks were blown up in Beirut, the Lebanese people had not declared war with us. Radical Muslims had. When the World Trade Center was bombed in 1993, it was done by radical Muslims. The bombs that killed and maimed people at the Boston Marathon were set off by radical Muslims. I dont need to mention 9/11, do I? And now we do not face Iran, Iraq, or Syria as such, as much as we face ISIS. We need to stop thinking of past wars. This is not Germany or Japan. This is not a war with a kind of people. It is a war with holders of an ideology. We need to stop being afraid of being called mean and stand up and say, These are the bad guys! They are not attacking because they are defending themselves or their religion or their way of life. They are attacking anyone who is not like them. In a country where live-and-let-live is a philosophy drilled into us from an early age, this is a concept which is difficult to grasp. And yet we must. If our culture is going to survive, we must open our eyes and refuse to cower. If we dont, we will surely fall.
