From this weeks Morton Times Newspaper Suspect, motive sought in Morton home shootings By Michael Smothers Pekin Daily Times reporter msmothers@pekintimes Posted Aug. 4, 2014 @ 6:32 pm Updated Aug 4, 2014 at 9:23 PM MORTON One residence may have been targeted, but two were struck by the hail of bullets someone fired in a well-kept mobile home park in Morton early Saturday, police said Monday. Investigators continued gathering clues and information but were still seeking to determine who fired the shots and why, said Morton Police Chief Craig Hilliard. Several gunshots struck an unoccupied trailer home at 114 Willow Oak Drive in the Oak Lawn Mobile Home Estates subdivision shortly before 1 a.m. That might indicate the home was a specific target of the shooter, Hilliard said. Another bullet, however, struck an adjacent home at 115 White Oak Drive. It was occupied, but no one inside was injured, Hilliard said. It’s possible that shot had first penetrated through the residence at 114 Willow Oak before striking the other, he said. Other shots hit a parked vehicle and a home’s outside air-conditioning unit, he said. Six shots apparently were fired in all. Police found no suspects at the scene when they responded to neighbors’ calls, Hilliard said. He declined to speculate on a possible motive for the shootings and to detail what evidence police found at the scene.
