From time to time something happens, and commenters say that if the U.S. government responds to it in a certain way the terrorists will have won. Lets be clear, amigos: the terrorists won a long time ago. Virtually everything the government has done in the guise of dealing with terrorism since 9/11 -- a mass of actions wrecking the economy and destroying liberties in the USA -- constitutes a gigantic win for the terrorists. Never in the history of the world did such a trifling investment in terrorism yield such an enormous payoff for the terrorists. Of course, this outcome was no accident. Although the governments actions were counterproductive, wasteful, and destructive for the public at large, they were hugely beneficial for the people who constitute the U.S. state, allowing them to gain greatly in their power over the American people and in the amount of wealth they suck from the productive people in the economy. ~ Robert Higgs
