From todays Age: Geelong region Labor supporters are jubilant inside Geelong Trades Hall after the party retained Bellarine, Geelong and Lara - and came close to claiming South Barwon. There was a roar of applause among the around 100 Labor supporters when Denis Napthine conceeded defeat just before 10pm. This is just a dream come true, said Labor MP John Eren, who retained the seat of Lara. Labor candidate Andy Richards told the excited crowd that South Barwon was also too close to call, though ABC gave it to Liberal incumbent Andrew Katos. The Liberals were not worried about jobs for the people of Geelong - they were worried about the jobs they held in parliament, Mr Richards said of the swing to Labor. Mr Eren and Mr Richards joined Lisa Neville, who retained Bellarine, and Christine Couzens, who retained Geelong for her former boss, retiring Labor MP Ian Trezise, at the hall. Ms Neville said her supporters helped lead her to victory despite a negative campaign that had targeted her electorate. This has been a grassroots community campaign, he said.
