From your local neighborhood astronomer. If you dont like those intrusive lights in your bedroom from the bodega across the street well after they close. Or if you HATE that street light right outside your bedroom window, then read on. In 8 days the New York State Outdoor Lighting Act is dead in the water if Governor Cuomo doesn’t sign the bill into law. The bill (A07489B/S5275B) requires New York state agencies to use fully shielded lighting for all new parking lot and roadway fixtures. The New York Assembly and Senate passed the bill last June, but Governor Cuomo has yet to sign it. We need you to demand Governor Cuomo to do the right thing and sign the bill! We’ve already urged the Governor to sign by the Wed., Dec. 17 deadline. Now it’s time to add your voice before it is too late. Take Action! Please call Governor Cuomo at +1 518 474 8390 (and choose option 3). Tell him that you support the New York State Outdoor Lighting Act and you want him to act now. You can also write to him online here. These simple controls have been adopted in numerous states and will help New York save energy, money, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and reduce the negative effects poor outdoor lighting has on the environment and human health. But it wont happen unless the Governor signs the bill. You have 8 days to act. Help change history and tell the Governor to sign this important piece of legislation. Your voice can help protect New York’s night skies for generations to come. Thank you for all that you do for dark skies, W. Scott Kardel Acting Executive Director International Dark Sky Association P.S. Please encourage others to demand Governor Cuomo sign the New York State Outdoor Lighting Act pollution bill before the Dec. 17 deadline! International Dark Sky Association 3223 N.
