Fruit Smoothies, whats the crack? Its all too easy to believe that chucking a ton of fruit into the blender or juicer and decimating it to a smooth liquid is a healthy way to your 5 a day. Unfortunately its not necessarily the case. Most fruit is full of a natural sugar called fructose, its natural but its a sugar non the less. When fruit is pulped down you are effectively accelerating the speed in which the sugars can be absorbed through your gut resulting a a huge blood sugar spike! It is possible with a bit of creativity to make smoothies that are healthily balanced and wont thrust you insulin levels into utter turmoil. Some useful hints include using berries, cinnamon or peanut butter. I always add spinach for texture and because simply its uber good for you!
