Fruit of the Tongue Scripture Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits. Proverbs 18:21 (ESV) Observation How very true is this? You can either choose to uplift or tear down; and regardless of the saying, names do hurt. What I take from this verse is that we can use our words to bring encouragement or to discourage, embarrass and humiliate. The implication is that whatever we choose it will be returned to us in kind. If you are the type of person that is quick with a negative response then dont be surprised when that is what you receive. Application I do not want to be the guy that people try to avoid because I never have anything nice to say or because I am always whining about something or someone. I want to be the guy that folk love to talk to because they go away feeling better due to the care and encouragement they receive. I know I have been the former in the past and from now on I will endeavour to be the latter. Talk is a necessary part of life in community and I would rather that the fruit of it was pleasant and enjoyable. Prayer Dear God, help me to do the impossible and tame the tongue, to bring it under your rule, to turn my talk to good and be uplifting to those I encounter. This is a huge ask and I confess that I desperately need your help. Show me how by putting me in situations that will test this resolve and correct me when necessary.
