For Immediate Release Date: 29 June 2014 On 28 June 2014, at 9:07 am the Newton Police Department responded to a reported “damage to property” at Windsor Apartments located at 100 W. 17th St Newton. At 10:37 am, while gathering information for the “damage to property” report, officers were alerted by neighbors to an unresponsive female in apartment #21. Officers immediately requested emergency medical response and ran to apartment #21 to assist. When officers entered the apartment with neighbors they discovered a female victim deceased. The victim has been identified as Margaret “Maggie” Elizabeth Daniels of 100 W. 17th St. Apt 21, Newton NC. Ms. Daniels was employed by Newton-Conover City Schools as a counselor at Discovery High School. At this time, this case is being treated as a death investigation just as all other unattended death cases. Newton Police did request and is receiving assistance from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation. Newton Police hopes to have more information after an autopsy is completed which is scheduled for Monday, June 30th. At this time there is no further information to report.
