Full-time job at The Royal Alberta Museum: Assistant Curator of Quaternary Vertebrate Paleontology. Competition 1024537 – Assistant Curator, Quaternary Palaeontology ROLE - At the Royal Alberta Museum we strive to help Albertans play an active and informed role in shaping their world by encouraging understanding and appreciation of Albertas natural and cultural heritage. Reporting to the Curator, Quaternary Palaeontology, the Assistant Curator maintains and enhances all components of the collections, and supports the overall program research direction. The Assistant Curator is expected to support program research objectives in field and laboratory settings, and will develop and lead research initiatives related to collections management and fossil preservation. You will have a background in Quaternary palaeontological research and collections management. You will be able to co-ordinate projects within the collection, including training and supervision of contract and volunteer staff. A strong commitment to public outreach and engagement is required, because you will be a point of contact for public and scholarly inquiries, loan requests, and interaction with industry stakeholders. As the successful candidate, you will be able to work independently or in a team setting and have strong communication and organizational skills. You will be working in a team setting and a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary milieu, so excellent interpersonal skills are a must. You will possess museum and field-based research skills in Quaternary Palaeontology and possess in-depth knowledge of collections management, including database management and fossil conservation. You will participate in museum redevelopment activities, including new gallery development and readying collections for moving. Excellent organizational skills are essential to this position, as is a high attention to detail. QUALIFICATIONS - Bachelor of Science in Bioscience, Palaeontology, Earth Science or Geological Science or related discipline combined with 5 years museum-related experience. Background and knowledge of collections management and the Quaternary vertebrate palaeontology record of Alberta and western North America is required. Knowledge of GIS and field and laboratory skills specific to Quaternary Palaeontology are assets.
