Fun Fact: The maxi dress originated in 1968 when Oscar de La Renta created a cotton lace version for Elizabeth Arden Salon. Soon, other designers copied the look, and the style took off. Doctor Zhivago (1965) is also considered to be responsible for making the style popular. The maxi looked slightly different back then, being lacy and hemmed just above the ankles. By the late 1970s the maxi dress was considered out of date. However, in 2009, the maxi dress made a comeback in spring collections, highlighting boho charm. Now, the maxi is longer and can be worn during the warmer months as well as the cooler ones. Its versatility has definitely made it a staple for women from all walks of life.
