Fun Facts Friday: Did you know it can take a snake anywhere from a few days up to a week to shed its skin? The whole process has several steps, during which the snake must hide someplace safe as it is vulnerable. While humans shed skin constantly, snakes shed their whole skin a few times a year instead. The discarded skins can be found near rock piles and under forest debris, and are frequently either eaten by insects or used by birds in their nests - one study suggests that the snake skins presence in the nest deters predators.
