Fun and games at court (not the kind my SCA friends are thinking - TopicsExpress

Fun and games at court (not the kind my SCA friends are thinking of). Two weeks ago I got pulled over for running a flashing red. I didnt, actually, but he said I did, and I never argue with the man holding the handgun. He also said I nearly hit a motorcycle that had the right of way (at 0530 on a Thursday at 21f degrees? It was a Cyclops, but I digress). So he lights me up and writes me up. Fine. Says I can fight it in court if I want. (which will cost more in lost wages than the ticket would cost, but again, I digress). He says you can pay it online and hands me a card with the website. Fine. That afternoon I check online and there is no evidence of the ticket under my name and license number. I call the office and am told that that information is frequently not filed for 14 days. Court date was 6 days out. Fine. So I check the website every single day. and I call the clerk of the court every single day including the court date only to be told they had no record of the ticket. Yesterday I get home from work at 8:30 to find the post office has delivered a failure to appear/failure to pay. Then I notice the summons is written to Georgia L. Forest. (?????). This morning I run the website, and surprise, there is no ticket listed. I call the clerk of court again, who says nope, not filed yet. OH? says I? could it be that the ticket was misfiled. no, not usually Well then, says I, I will take time off of work and be right over. But she says you cant pay it if I dont have a record of it!. I arrange with my boss to take some leave hours and head on over. I have to clear security (which I cant do even if I am naked because of the masses of metal in my lower extremities). And take the two flights of stairs up. I introduce myself, and she again explains that she cant take money for a ticket not yet registered with the court. I had her the summons. OH she says. I proceed to explain that I am not actually guilty of what I was accused of having done, but that I could not fight it in the court because they have the wrong name on the courts documents. OH she says. I hand her my license, my federal ID, and the bogus ticket and summons. Meanwhile, a blond woman is watching with some interest. She asks to see the documents and the clerk hands her the lot. She writes Case Dismissed across the bottom of the ticket, makes a copy and hands it to me for my files. as it happens, she is the countys prosecuting attorney. Case fully dismissed without prejudice.
