Fun day camp for Sealots youth Friday, August 9 2013 AN INAUGURAL day-camp, arranged by the Time, Love and Care (TLC) organisation which was founded three years ago by Pearl James and her US-based mother-in-law Lystra Haynes, was started early in the week and continued yesterday in Sealots. James is the mother of 20-year-old Ryan Rampersad, who was left severely paralysed just over five months ago, following a fatal car accident in the Sea Lots area of Beetham Highway. Speaking with Newsday yesterday, James said she had the idea to organise a day-camp late last year. But after the February 24 accident in which her son was badly damaged and a Sealots woman and her two children, lost their lives, she felt an even greater urge, “to do something that would have a positive impact on these children’s lives.” James and Lystra reached out to corporate Trinidad and Tobago for sponsorship of the daily activities and treats and got a good response with Media 21 donating the use of a large projector screen for children’s viewing of animated movies inside the Sealots Open Bible Church at Pioneer Drive. Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) donated lunches for the children on Tuesday and Thursday, while Pizza Hut provided lunch on Wednesday. Fierce Faces Makeup artists painted colourful designs and even names, onto the faces of dozens of delighted boys and girls each day of the camp. There were also freshly-made cotton candy and popcorn on different days as well as a magician who performed on Wednesday. The final treat each day was a motivational speech and performance by a different musician. The TLC day-camp was held from 9 am to 2 pm on Tuesday, Wednesdaand yesterday, with the final treat each afternoon being a motivational speech and performance by various musicians. Today however, the camp will be held from 2 pm - 7 pm at the Blue Waters Aqua Fun Park at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port-of-Spain.
