Funding for Community Projects linked to the Armed Forces/Veterans Community Major Roy Robertson, Falkirk Council’s Veterans Adviser gave an informative presentation at our August meeting on 2 funding schemes that are available to support the armed forces/veteran communities: 1. Community Covenant Grant Scheme 2. The Armed Forces Covenant (LIBOR) Fund 1. Community Covenant Grant Scheme The Community Covenant Grant Scheme was established to support the community covenant and to fund local projects that bring together the civilian and armed forces communities. £30 million has been allocated to the Community Covenant Grant Scheme. Projects need to show a clear demonstrable benefit to the Armed Forces Community and their local community. They must be local projects and demonstrate value for money. Major Robertson can provide support to projects applying. Grants are assessed by local panels and there are set deadlines every year. Applications can be for £100 to £250,000 (although bids for amounts greater than this may also be considered in exceptional circumstances). Further information can be found at: https://gov.uk/community-covenant-grant-scheme 2. The Armed Forces Covenant (Libor) Fund The Armed Forces Covenant (LIBOR) Fund delivers financial support to projects which support the aims of the Armed Forces Covenant. It is a £35 million fund created from fines levied on the banks for attempting to manipulate LIBOR to the MOD for use in supporting the armed forces community. Applications can be for sums from £50,000 to £5,000,000. Bidding for the third tranche of the armed forces covenant (Libor) fund opened on 5 September 2013 and close on 16 October 2013. Whilst local projects can apply, this Fund favours larger regional and national projects. Further information can be found at: https://gov.uk/the-armed-forces-covenant-libor-fund
