Funding of Senior Corps, through the Corporation for National and Community Service, has been cut so drastically over the past three years that we see our senior population suffering and their needs and challenges not being met. These leveraged funds make a positive win/win impact by allowing seniors to share their experience and talents to tutor and mentor children, provide care giving and independent living support services to other seniors, and expand the resources of our non-profit agencies and schools. It is not smart fiscal or social policy to diminish these cost effective investments at the expense of communities, whose needs continue to expand. - Mayor Patty Lent, Bremerton, WA
