Funeral Cortege of Don Gregorio S. Araneta on the way to La Loma Cemetery. Don Gregorio S. Araneta died on 9 March 1930 of a cerebral hemorrhage. As per his last wishes, he had a simple but dignified funeral, not even a flower was seen in his funeral procession. His widow, Doña Carmen Zaragoza Araneta, and their daughters were left behind at 1030 R. Hidalgo, Quiapo, Manila, with only their sons joining the funeral procession and burial rites at the La Loma Cemetery. What made the funeral extraordinary was the presence of so many distinguished men, headed by President Quezon, Senator Sergio Osmeña, Sr., Speaker Pro-Tempore Antonio de las Alas, Supreme Court Chief Justice Ramon Avanceña and other members of the Supreme Court, legislators, members of the clergy, businessmen, and prominent lawyers, among them Clyde Alton De Witt, Vice President of the Association of American Lawyers of the Philippines.
